What is Aceable Drivers Education?

Aceable is an online learning company based in Texas that offers driver's education and defensive driving courses in a number of American states. This is a company designed around helping you get, keep, or get back your driver’s license. Aceable’s claim is that it strives to make the process as pain-free as possible (that goal comes directly from the company’s founder).

Aceable’s CEO and Founder, Blake Garrett, formed Aceable nearly a decade ago with a focus on making the mundane more tolerable. His company created online books and training manuals that were more like games than punishments. This led to Aceable’s current core product: helping people pass state license testing.

Today, Aceable’s formula is quickly being adopted by the industry at large. The end goal is to make the process of preparing for a state driver’s license quick, easy, and as pain-free as possible. Since most of Aceable’s products are online, they are also comparatively affordable.

How Much Does Aceable Cost?

Aceable has a wide variety of products. In addition to offering state-mandated driver’s license programs, Aceable also offers specific state courses such as Drug and Alcohol Awareness classes. Aceable even offers in-vehicle driving lessons in three states, Texas, Georgia, and California. Shop around a bit and you will quickly discover that the prices of online driver’s education and defensive driving programs offered will vary by state.

Online Drivers Ed Course Prices

Prices for driver’s education classes online range from $29 in Georgia to $100 for instructor-led classes in Texas. In states where online drivers education classes are allowed, Aceable can help parents avoid having to drive kids back and forth to and from the classroom. Take California for example, The Aceable class includes the learner’s permit and driver’s license preparation all online. The Aceable course is of course accredited by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and it replaces classroom drivers ed. Upon completing the course, Aceable provides the required certificate of completion.

Aceable Deals

Aceable shows a “list price” on its website and then its “discounted price” below that. In sales, this is known as a “Minister’s discount.” An imaginary discount from an elevated price to make the consumer feel better about their purchase. Don’t ask us how we know about this stuff...If you are a Groupon member, check out the discount codes offered there and online.

What is the Aceable Course Format?

Aceable provides those participating in its online courses with the minimum amount of subject matter legally allowed by the states that accredit the courses. The idea here is to reduce boredom. Students use their phones or other devices in a setting of their choosing.

Aceable has a formula. While participating, you read 500 characters or less per slide. (You’ve read about 500 WORDS in this long-format story so far by contrast) The idea is to not get bogged down. Remember how we told you above the company started out using gaming techniques to help people tolerate textbooks? Every Aceable slide also includes a descriptive image. These include modern types of media and include animation and memes. Aceable also ensures that students stay engaged with videos and practice questions that must be completed before moving on.

In the event a student has a question, Aceable has a customer support team. Questions are answered seven days a week in every way possible, including chat, phone, and email. And Aceable promises that you’ll always talk to a real human.

Aceable Online Reviews

Car Talk has twice looked closely at the many reviews of Aceable one can find online. In our previous story on the Five Best Online Driver’s Education Courses, we noted the following about Aceable: “Our research on Aceable.com turned up: over 800,000 monthly users (fastest growing among the large online course providers), 98% of reviews are Great or Excellent (Trustpilot).”

Aceable also earned a spot on Car Talk’s list of the Three Best Online Traffic Schools. Are you noticing a trend yet? In that story, we noted about Aceable’s reviews and ratings, “Aceable clearly states their license numbers for each of those states on the website. Aceable has been rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau, has a 4.9-star rating on Trust Pilot.”

You can (and should) check the reviews and ratings of Aceable yourself. But you are a busy person and we web lackeys at Car Talk lost the foosball ball, and we had some free time. So, we fired up our trusty Commodore 64 and looked at what folks were saying about Aceable on the world wide web. Here are a few selections we lifted along with where we found the info:

  • Trust Pilot - This site has nearly 24,000 reviews of Aceable. That is a crazy volume of folks typing opinions on anything. 90% of the reviews are 5-star. Most go something like this review posted the same day we wrote this story:

Best Driving Course! Because I am so busy outside of schooling I had no time to sit down in a classroom to go through Drivers ED. Aceable helped me accomplish that. It’s much more efficient. I like how it incorporates videos to help you grasp driving safety more. It’s much better for me to have that instead of just constant reading.”

We looked for a terrible review to see what the grumps were saying about Aceable and found this 3-star one by a local honor student: “It was kinda booty. I mean, I know we have to do 24 FREAKING HOURS of it, but like it was all just common sense. I’m just glad that it was easy, once I got the time and sat down to do it. Pro tip: do Aceable on one half of the screen and play games/ watch YouTube on the other half. Or just get in your phone to help you wait through the timers.”

  • Yelp - Yelp isn’t the newest social media site on the matrix, but it is packed with gems if you dig into the reviews. Its 23 Aceable reviews average to a 3-star rating.

Here is a 5-star review posted there of Aceable: “Had to call customer support to help fix something we had done... Before I could finish explaining the situation the person handling my call had fixed it. I've never experienced anything like this! It almost makes me want to adopt all of my neighbors' kids so I can use their products and services again.”

A little over the top for our liking, but the message about great customer service is valuable if you are on the fence. Here is a one-star review of Aceable found on Yelp: We liked this one because it is from a real veteran: “I've taken about 20 drivers safety courses (embarrassingly) and I always take defensivedriving.com so this time decided to switch it up but I’m only halfway through and I've been working on this thing ALL DAY with Aceable! it is DEFINITELY not 6 hours!! The questions are random and don't pertain to real life, (who drives in a roundabout in America?!?!) and the jokes aren't even CLOSE to funny! Please go with ANY other program. I read some blog saying this was the best program but I'm now positive that guy was paid by Aceable... Ridiculous!”

  • Aceable - itself also has a long listing of reviews it posts on its own website. If you trust those types of reviews. Feel free to have a gander.
