Low-trust voters (especially young people of color) are drifting towards the right (2024)

“Voters with low levels of trust in society and the political system are shifting rightward. Donald Trump redefined the GOP in the eyes of many, associating the party with a paranoid vision of American life and a populist contempt for the nation’s political system. In response, Democrats rallied to the defense of America’s greatness, norms, and institutions. As the parties polarized on the question of whether America was “already great,” voters with high levels of social trust and confidence in the political system became more Democratic, while those with low social trust and little faith in the government became more Republican.“

This makes sense. Successful Democratic Presidents have couched their arguments for voting for them to make a change to the system, not uphold it. That is the essence of conservativism.

And 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡'𝑠 the real issue, added to the fact that young people spend a lot more time staring into their smartphones, consuming propaganda on social media.

Dear R1: the gutless, spineless, obese, pervert who is the spiritual leader of your bowel movement, Donald Trump, spends two hours every morning doing his hair and putting on his makeup, spent 4 years sitting his fat white ass on the couch in the Oval Office beating off to the assclowns of Faux News giving him on air verbal blow j*bs, and according to his favorite hooker, has a tiny dick.

How much more of a freak show do you want?

Low-info, low-trust... how many new terms are we going to invent to describe people who simply crave autocratic rule? Every country has them, they're about a third of the population, and they can't be helped.

by Anonymousreply 6May 28, 2024 12:18 PM

Wanting an 82 year old man to serve another four year term isn’t autocratic?

by Anonymousreply 7May 28, 2024 12:21 PM

[quote]R4: Accusing everyone who disagrees with you of being a Russian IS conservatism

No, babe. It's not about 'disagreement.' Far right and Russian 𝑑𝑒𝑧𝑖𝑛𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑠𝑖𝑦𝑎 have very specific telltale traits, and are being targeted towards various user constituencies on social media. That's a fact, and not open to debate.

And being aware of the information warfare on social media isn't the equivalent of Cold War far right anticommunism. News Flash: the Russians aren't communist anymore.

[quote]R7: Wanting an 82 year old man to serve another four year term isn’t autocratic?

No, it isn't. Wanting a 77 year old man with ambitions to be an autocrat is autocratic.

by Anonymousreply 8May 28, 2024 12:27 PM

No, R7, it isn't.

But wanting a petty, vindictive, overgrown man-child who wipes his ass with the US Constitution and has vowed to set up a dictatorship and banish his critics if he gets reelected sounds quite autocratic to me.

Again this is how conservatives think. A Democratic Party that disavows aspects of liberalism like questioning authority, the establishment and conventional wisdom is a conservative party.

by Anonymousreply 11May 28, 2024 12:38 PM

We live in a country of opulence and excess. Our people don’t starve, they don’t serve, most can get some level of health care, the vast majority don’t even know a homeless person,

And we are bombarded by social media, which we claim to hate but are involved in every day, and it makes us envious upset and full of angst and hate.

Despite having lived in a well off stable country, not perfect but well off and stable, those on the left and right see nothing but potential doom and gloom and heartbreak coming,

We are ripe for a right wing win, Then in time the winds will shift and a generation will come along in time that will fight to make things better again.

We today will bitch and moan and complain and express hate for those that disagree with us and hate many who agree with us but are not as pure as they should be. We are the dead generations. Fat lazy triggered and worried. In time stronger generations will replace us and the fight will go on.

by Anonymousreply 12May 28, 2024 12:55 PM

Unbelievable? Not really. What are Democrats doing or saying to attract voters? The Republicans looked at the sh*tty state of our country and started blaming everyone else. Oldest game in the political playbook. It seems like they are fine with a turd in chief as long as someone does something to make the country appear better. People only care about their lack of money, perceived increase in crime and illegal immigration. Abortion? Gender? Israel? Not as important to them. Democratic Party leadership didn't read the room and now it's too late.

by Anonymousreply 13May 28, 2024 1:02 PM

Troll, troll, troll your crap everywhere you go...

Be better or it's off to Ukraine to be cannon fodder 😠

by Anonymousreply 14May 28, 2024 1:09 PM

People, especially the less educated, are sick of the uncontrolled aspects of this society and will gravitate toward an authoritarian figure who will make all of their decisions for them. If one appears to be a control person, they will vote for that person. If a candidate, no matter how correct or honorable he might be, seems directionless, they will not vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 15May 28, 2024 1:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 24May 28, 2024 3:06 PM

[quote] they decided to turn up the government printing presses to high and handing out trillions of dollars in free money so people would vote for the ass clown

Biden turning up the government printing presses to high and handing out trillions of dollars in free money seemed to help in the 2022 elections, but the resulting huge increase in inflation may hurt him in the 2024 election. However, he may get some support from the billions in free money he handed out to student loan debtors.

by Anonymousreply 25May 28, 2024 3:22 PM

Biden didn't initiate the PPP, R25. That occurred on Trump's watch. Trillions of dollars were handed out to people and businesses and only a small portion of it has actually been recovered or accounted for.

Just this past week, a local restaurant owner was convicted of taking over $1 million in PPP loans, and the bitch stay closed even after the government mandates had been lifted, all the while collecting government money to pay her employees (who never got a dime).

The Democratic Party is experiencing significant anxiety about President Joe Biden's reelection prospects. Despite earlier confidence, concerns have intensified due to Biden's poor polling, fundraising shortfalls compared to Donald Trump, and the political landscape. This unease is compounded by Trump's unexpected success in traditionally Democratic areas and his substantial fundraising efforts. Key issues like high inflation, Biden's age, and the unpopularity of Vice President Kamala Harris contribute to the worry. While Biden's team remains focused on key battleground strategies and emphasizes successes, many Democrats fear the stakes of the election, particularly regarding the threat posed by Trump to democracy.

The right the far right those that want to see the US and Russian as partners will be an issue for decades to come. And they only have to have one big win. WH, Senate, House, And the US will head down a dark path for years.

Scott and Johnson and those a lot worse will be the issue. Smarter than trump more vicious than trump more competent than trump. They not trump will be the big issue and for many of you, this will last for the rest of your life.
