What is the fastest type of internet?
+−
Fiber internet is the fastest type of internet connection. It uses cables made of bundled fiber-optic strands to transmit large amounts of data with light signals. Most fiber internet plans give you 1,000 Mbps speeds, although some providers can get you speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps or even 5,000 Mbps. Fiber is also the only type of internet that gives you symmetrical upload speeds—so your uploads will be just as fast as your downloads.

Why is my T-Mobile internet speed slower than advertised?
T-Mobile advertises max speeds of 182 Mbps on its 5G Home Internet service, but average speed test results are far below that at just 63.85 Mbps. That’s because 5G Home Internet uses a fixed wireless cellular connection that can fluctuate in speed due to a range of factors, including network congestion and geographic impediments. That said, if you have strong cell service in your area, it’s likely your speeds skew faster overall.

About our T-Mobile internet speed test
The T-Mobile internet speed measures three things:
Download speed: The speed at which your device pulls data from the internet. Usually measured in Mbps or Gbps.
Upload speed: The speed at which your device sends data to the internet. Usually measured in Mbps or Gbps.
Latency (Ping): The time (measured in milliseconds) it takes for a signal to travel from your device to an internet server and back. Lower latency means your connection has a better response time for activities like gaming and livestreams.

How does the T-Mobile internet speed test work?
Our T-Mobile speed test works by sending a signal to a nearby test server and measuring how long it takes for the server to respond. The test also opens multiple simultaneous connections to the server to download and upload small pieces of data. Through that process, the test is able to determine how long it takes to collect and deliver the data and the amount of network bandwidth used in the process.
T-Mobile internet speed FAQ
How fast are T-Mobile internet speeds?
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet hits speeds between 33 Mbps and 182 Mbps. T-Mobile’s internet service works over a fixed wireless 5G connection, making speeds less consistent compared to wired connections like fiber and cable. So your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet speeds likely fluctuate throughout the day due to network congestion and other factors.
As for T-Mobile phone plans and hotspots, average speeds usually fall between 61 Mbps and 171 Mbps. You get faster speeds on T-Mobile’s 5G network, but users connect more often to the carrier’s slower 4G LTE network.
How do I get faster internet?
You can get faster internet by upgrading your internet plan. If you can’t upgrade your current speeds and feel stuck with bad service, you can also switch to a new provider.
Run a search with your zip code below to see what kinds of speeds you can get in your area.
Is 5G internet better than fiber, cable, and DSL?
5G home internet is better than DSL in terms of speed and price. It’s competitive with cable and fiber—and oftentimes cheaper—but a 5G wireless connection isn’t as fast or reliable as cable or fiber.
5G home internet is a promising new type of internet service that works over cellular connections.
Is cable better than fiber and DSL?
Cable is not faster than fiber internet, but it is better than DSL. You can hit max speeds of 1,000 Mbps over many cable connections, whereas DSL reaches only about 100 Mbps.
